These exchanges have served to remind me that I have an ancient Ham-M that
hasn't
been used in years, but which exhibits similar "lock-up" characteristics. It
will
run for several degrees in one direction and then by "rocking" it can be
persuaded
to run in the opposite direction until it once again "locks up." Since the
lock-up
points aren't necessarily the same each time, my guess is that I have powder for
lubricant on the inside of the housing.
I can remember from the distant past that you should expect the ball bearings to
fall out and roll under the table when you take one of these things apart.
Since
the manuals are of little or no help, I was wondering if anyone has written up
a
step-by-step re-greasing script for these machines designed to prevent the
would-be
home service man from falling victim to such unexpected gotchas?
