Hi Charles,
I don't know about the 205BA, but I have the 10 and 15 meter
versions. This summer when I had them down (due to tower work), I
compared the manuals for both the BA/CA versions. Indeed the BA looks
to have higher gain, and the CA looks to have higher F/B. Is this because
the gain figures for the BA were computed differently way back when, and
therefore we are really comparing apples and oranges? I don't know.
In the end, I left the 155BA alone because it gives me the entire
band under 2:1 SWR. The 155CA would not give me the entire band.
However, I did change the 105BA to 105CA, because I could get the CW end
through 28.7+ with a good SWR, and the F/B looked better with perhaps
only an inconsequential loss of gain.
How does the 105CA work? Well,I was happy with it on the August
NAQP CW, but one contest is hard to use to make complete determination.
Besides, I don't have a 105BA to compare it to!
By the way, I heard from someone else that extra aluminum must be
purchased in order to convert the 205BA to 205CA. I can verify, however,
that none need to be purchased for the 155 or 105 conversions.
What's the bottom line? Go ahead and change them. You can
always change them back next year when you take them down to to polish
and rotate the elements! :-)
Well, that's enough from me - I gotta go and replace the summer air in
my tires with winter air - the cold weather is coming soon!
