Another way to figure Noon with the sunrise/sunset times
is to use an Excel spreadsheet. First do the sh/sun w
on the DX Cluster to get rise/set times as stated in a
previous thread. I'll use today's sunrise and sunset
for W land which is 1016Z and 0134Z. Of course sunrise
is in today's date and sunset will be in tomorrow's date.
Place SUNSET is cell 1A and SUNRISE is cell 2A using the
this exact format:
7/3/97 01:34
7/2/97 10:16
If your entries are all #######'s, click on "A column"
right on the dark A, then go to the command bar and click
Format Column AutoFit to display your entries.
Click your mouse in cell 3A and enter the following
formula.
=(A1-A2)/2+A2
Press ENTER
Now click on cell 3A. Go to the command bar and select
Format Cells Time h:mm
(This formats the cell for time)
What you have done is to take the time is 2A, subtract it
from 1A, divide the results by 2, add the orginal sunrise
time back into the equation, and displayed the time in
cell 3A. The results should be 1755Z.
Save this little routine and you can change the date/time
in the first two cells and display the results in 3A
as the formula will stay there until you remove it.
For those not familiar with Excel's math capabilities,
this only scratches the surface. You have just used
date/time mathematics. This may seem like a long routine
but it is very fast once you get use to it.
