Steve K7LXC said regarding BX: Where did it come from? I don't know the origin;
The Rohn BX/HBX/HDBX were originally made by Spaulding/Strato Towers. They
were sold to Airports and World radio sold them as the "Globe Spire." They
were part of a line that included line that included light duty crank-ups
and the EP series of very light tower that was guyed or house bracketed.
Rohn bought them and spun off the Strato line to another firm (Midwest Tower
as I remember). The BX line was designed for a small but heavy antenna...so
the engineering went into supporting the down moment not the side moment of
a big beam.
There is a ham near me who has a 2 el Gem Quad on his HBX tower. Its been
up for over 10 years and its held up better than most other towers (we have
gone thru tornadoes and 85MPH winds from Opal).
