OK. Here's something I've always wondered about.
Since a 502 insulator certainly isn't going to stand off the voltage
from a strike, does this "path of least resistance" model assume that
all the strike energy will flow DOWN the tower toward the nice ground
rod array we all take the time to install, rather then just flashing
over all those pretty insulators and THEN welding all the turnbuckles ??
Seems to me, the voltage gradient on the tower at the moment of strike
will light up all the insulators, at least on the top sets of guys.
Once they flash over and lower their resistance to next to nothing,
wouldn't you have BIG current flowing down the guys ??
I thought this is why we all ground our guy wires IN FRONT of the turn
buckles - insulators or no insulators...
