     Glad that the MARC program was useful.  Actually, that was the idea -
hi.

     7075-T6 has 70,000 psi tensile strength so sounds reasonable for your
application.  

      To prevent carbon steel masts from rusting, you need to coat it with
something.  The most common is to have it hot dipped galvanized.  This runs
about 45 cents a pound here in the Seattle area.  Or you can paint it with a
marine or industrial type paint.  It has to adher very well and not flake off
over time.  

     As for the steel vs. aluminum weight, the aluminum is definitely
lighter.  A factor of 2?  I'm not sure but one person can pick up a 22 foot
mast where a 1026 is HEAVY.
