I agree. Don't put the boom support under the boom. I did it for 2 years,
and when I took it down I found serious stress cracking at the swaged end
of the strut. If you put the strut over the boom, you must pin the joints with
1/8 inch machine screws or the silly things just slip. A better idea is
to replace the center reinforcing piece inside the boom with a 3' length
of 1/4 inch wall 2 inch OD aluminum. Next, throw the strut in the dumpster.
