What about this: a yagi that travels fastened to the roof, but is
replaced onto an aluminum roof-mounted tripod (Glenn Martin Engrg.) You
could use 2" x 2" angle mounted to the roof permanently, with similar
angle mounted to the tripod, and mate the vertical surfaces... putting
bolts thru for mounting. If you used a smaller Force 12 tribander/etc.
it would not be so heavy that you couldn't lift it into place by hand
onto a 5 ft. tripod (G.M.E. currently has 'em on sale @ $99.) You could
probably leave a lighter-weight rotor (like an HD-73) permanently mtd.
on the tripod, and lift THAT whole ass'y into place at once as well. All
that would remain would be to connect your coax and rotor cables and
perhaps-using the same 2" al. angle mounted to the outer edge of the RV
framework-guy the whole thing. Voila!

P.S. All the Force-12s are smaller in tubing diameter for less
wind-resistance and lighter weight. My (old now) TET HB-43 followed the
same principles and has been a great antenna.

P.P.S. Years ago I used a yagi 5 feet off a roof (OK-it wasn't metal)
and it beat the living daylights out of anything else I had had until
then.
