Hi Again John,
I'm posting this reply on the 'reflector' since I'd like to share it with
everyone.
The EMT I recommended you use for your R-7 mast I believe coat me about $13.
It's also called electrical conduit tubing.
Another source for mast material- as cheap as can be- is your local scrap
metal dealer- you know, the one who takes cans and old hot water heaters and
washing machines. They'll sell you all kinds of piping- by the pound! After
all, they buy it by the pound so they sell it that way (no doubt at twice
the price... but no where near what it sells for retail!)
I've found some simply marvelous stuff in the scrap metal yard.... copper
and aluminum wire thicker than your thumb (no longer of use to the power
company as scrap "ends"!) Great for grounding and booster cables.... sheet
aluminum plates up to 1/2" thick, great for boom-to-mast brackets! I've seen
SOLID 2" x 10-ft aluminum rods. It was a truly beautiful sight to behold!
More stuff than I can possibly mention.
Oh! I just picked up a beautiful computer controlled Hewlett-Packard fully
metered and adjustable 10-Amp power supply in beautiful working condition!
Only $5. Someone dumped it for scrap metal along with some beautiful
computers. It's a ham's gold mine.
