This circuit is clearly MUCH simpler than the MFJ units, which uses matching transformers and has several extra stages. Personally, I would find it annoying that the gain isn't unity through the unit. ALSO - I bought a secondhand MFJ-1025 for about $70 . . . but found that I needed to add a 2-stage preamp for the Noise antenna (which the 1026 has) - but this is easy as the 1025 uses the same PCB as the 1026, so I just built it onto the pcb, using MFJ's design.
