Last night before watching the news with my xyl, I decided to check 160. I
didn’t expect much with the solar wind above 400km/s and a pretty hot looking
AU.
In spite of the high QRN I saw a trace on the waterfall from Andy DL8LAS
calling CQ. As the amp was warming up, I also could see Len SM7BIC calling on
21.5.
Andy and I made it at 316z, and his signal peaked very well at the end of our
exchange and later at 323z. SM7BIC was in the log right after Andy at 320z.
Both signals on the direct path broadside Beverage pair.
I had a date with my wife to watch TV so I didn’t call CQ so not sure if more
EU might have made it. 0300 z is a difficult time for me to be at the radio. I
am usually CQ around 0400z or so.
My SS is at 240z now.
