Jim,

It stops acting like a Beverage, because it has much capacity to ground over its entire length, it acts like a tuned circuit. It becomes more directive as modeling shows.

Please see IV3PRK at HC1PF research, its best to see modeling page first

http://www.iv3prk.it/bog-modeling.htm

Then the research page

As Guy, K2AV said earlier, we need to change the  name to reflect  its characteristics.     wig =wire in ground, wug wire under ground,  wog =wire on ground,  ' Its open for all sugestions'. One should take !  (; > ))

Name wise, this is an antenna in the making. hi

Guy,

(My WD1-A two wire, two direction  "BOG" antenna)

I do not have the exact measurement, but it is now about 175/177 feet .   It has rained almost daily here. Many bugs,& ticks are out,  There are two types of black flies in large swams that are fast to attack.   Soon I will get my courage up, and after suitable clothing protection, will get the exact measurement through the weeds/vegetation, and post it..

      Bruce,

This is interesting, it seems up until now, I was under the impression that once a beverage was at or below ground, it lost directivity.
Thanks,

After the spring frost out, noticed my best front to back was at the top of the BCB (broadcast band). The change this year was less than previous years. The BOG wire is now out of sight, buried under vegetation and earth. Listened while scanning frequencies to a 'distant thunder shower' headed this way, to find the best front to back. Took off about 6 feet of BOG wire and best F/B now is up to about 1810 KHZ. What is noted; As the BOG wire is under more vegetation, and earth moisture, it becomes more stable. 160 meter signals have more earth penetration than higher frequency bands. If I had to do an installation again, would 'shallow bury' the wire. Tucking the wire just under the earth. Like most transceivers, my bar graph S meter is probably not well calibrated. But can see 'up to' 8 S points front to back low in the 160 meter band.
