Very good points, Jim, and I agree!

As I said earlier, Lynne and the folks at Kreger can point us to the other
Fair-Rite distributors - but I expect that the same advice still applies!

In my past experience, I was dealing with substantial industrial quantities
for electricity meters etc. and the designer kits were generally supplied
free of charge to a large customer. Not to be expected here.

I've done biz with Kreiger at least once and been pleased. Do not waste
your money and their time buying small quantities of ferrite parts.
Appendix One of my RFI tutorial includes Fair-Rite part numbers of the
useful parts, a list of known good vendors, and a worksheet to help hams
decide how many they should buy based on their operating habits. If you're
buying small quantity (less than a few boxes) it pays to call multiple
distributors -- those with stock left over from a big order will be cheaper.

Organize a group purchase of your local club and get quantity discounts that
make the parts you need very inexpensive. I've been part of at least a half
dozen such efforts over the years. I typically pay $4-$5 for a 2.4-in o.d.
toroid, and $10-$12 for the biggest clamp-ons (1-inch i.d.). Fair-Rite is
easy to deal with if you hit their minimums and buy box quantities, and they
will drop ship boxes to more than one locations.

A box of toroids is 100 pieces, and the biggest clamp-ons are 36 to a box.

We do want box quantities because there is much less breakage in full boxes
packed by Fair-Rite.
