Hello David:

This is an interesting question - and my love for the HyTower antenna design
promoted me to do a quick Google search for "plans for NDB transmitting
antennas". This search yielded a ton of information. Some of it looks very
useful as you think about a possible design for your LF RX antenna.

I used "transmitting" in the search so the results might more closely apply
to your possible HyTower modification.

seeking any info on loading the hygain hytower vert antenna up on
500kc/136kc, (works FB on 160m with base coil) will be for RX only. if
you have done either pse email.

to top load a vert, must the hat radials emanate from the peak? the
construction of the hytower makes this impossible; i can however easily
connect at the top of the tower section.
