All - some of us heard this rumor yesterday and KL7RA was able to confirm
the sad news that JW5NM is a silent key. We will all miss Mathias on
Topband. He was so often on the band putting up with the long QSB.
A sad day for all topbanders.

Hello Rich
I am sorry to say that Mathias died yesterday.
He was in a very good mood last week, looking forward to his son visiting him.
On Saturday he was dancing and drinking on
'Mellageret' here in Ny Ålesund. On Sunday morning he was found lying on the
tundra dressed for a morning walk, which he often did.
He was cold and unable to communicate in understandable language so we brought
him inside and put him to bed. A little later his
hart stopped. We tried to resuscitate him, but without success. When the
helicopter came an hour later he was pronounced dead by
the doctor.
