To reduce the fatigue from QRN receiver choice is important.
Most modern receivers with upconversions and multiple filters in IF chains tend 
to mush up and stretch (filter ringing) the lightning strike pulses. 
One of the better solutions is good old Drake R4B with INRAD 600 Hz "roofing" 
filter wired in.
QRN just goes PST vs. PPPSSSSSSTTT on Yaecomwoods.
Even better are direct conversion and SDR receivers without any Xtal filters.
Then the directional antennas discriminating against offending storm's 
direction are the ultimate arsenal.
