Topband: noise analysis w/ soundcard

I am just wondering if it is possible to analyze noise (possible power 
line noise, etc.) using a sound card?
If so, should one look into an audio analysis program or a sound card 
oscilloscope as the means of analysis.

Anyone have any suggestions on what some good programs are?
