Try drilling a very small hole in the bottom side, preferable two,

the bugs, air circulation works wonders and keeps it dry, if
you airtite the box it will condensate no matter what you do,
rice will be ready to be eaten in a few weeks.
Thats why you vent your home or you would be walking around
with boots on all the time.
