G'day
There seems to be a strange misconception among some topbanders that VK9CG
will not be on 160m.
The 160m antennas were only taken down the night before Charlie left VK9X
owing to their large size and the fact they are hard/slow to pack
up... There was nothing untoward about this!
People shouldn't forget that as far as 160m is concerned, Charlie is
basically a single operator DXpedition (and he will hate me to say this,
but he isn't a young man and has one artificial knee - although as strong
as an ox).
When Charlie got to VK9C, he intended to get on 160 straight away, but
conditions have been terrible on the band since he got there - and the OTHR
has been hugely strong!!! As a result, he has been mainly on 40, as that
is the only low band conditions have been reasonable on.
From VK9C, on 160 Charlie has got a Force 12 vertical that is sitting
right on the edge of the sea, with some radials in the sea and about 40 on
land. Room is much more of a premium than on Christmas Island, but he is
hoping to phase a couple of pennants in the next day or so.
