Vlad UA2FF is preparing for his next MVI DX-pedition for November
17-28 including the Leonids meteor shower and the CQWW CW contest.
R1MVI will be looking particularly for North America and Japan on 80 and
160m. This will be a very large operation with about 25 operators including
some very well-known Topband operators. They are preparing big vertical
TX antennas including Beverages for both short and long paths to North
America (and other areas).

The NCDXF has approved a $1000 contribution for this expedition,
not because MVI is rare overall, but mainly because of their focus on the
low bands. Most summer MVI expeditions take place when low band
paths outside of W1-3 are not possible due to no common darkness. My
guess is nobody from W6/7/0 has MVI on 80 meters, much less 160m!
The time of year, equipment and operators indicate that this operation
should make a lot of low band DX'ers in North America happy. If you
want to make a contribution of at least $100 to the operation, NCDXF has
agreed to allow "directed contributions" for that amount and above. This
means US contributors can deduct their contributions from income taxes
due to the 503c status of NCDXF. To do this, make your check to NCDXF
and put "MVI Directed Contribution" at the bottom. If you need MVI on 80
or 160, why not let the IRS help fund the operation? Of course smaller
contributions are welcome and can be included with your QSL!

Conditions to Scandinavia have been outstanding the past several
days on 160. If these conditions repeat on the 27-day solar cycle, it should
be possible for even W6/7 to put MVI into their logs on Topband. It might
even be that a few do it via long path at W6/7 sunrise, but my guess is that
this will be much more common on 80 meters.

Thanks to Vlad UA2FF for organizing this expedition at a time of
year and solar cycle that should allow most of North America a chance on
the low bands. Good luck to everyone on the team and let's hope these
good Topband conditions repeat in November!

                                        73, Bill W4ZV
