Chip,

Herb's comment regarding cancellation is real.
You could raise the base impedance, and wind up
with a nicely matched ineffective antenna.  

I would shorten the wires up to maybe 15', and run
the perimeter wire between them.  Probably would be 
a wash in toploading, so I wouldn't expect an improvement
in efficiency.  OR...if you can run one or two topload wires out
to some trees, like an Ell or Tee, that'd be considerably better.  

As a hint...I use a #14 256 strand PVC insulated wire for
antennas, held up by 1/8" kevlar/dacron line.  bought it at
Radioworks...it's black and olive drab, and almost invisible.
Because it's insulated, I run it through trees with impunity.
Not perfect...but functional.
