I use vacuum variables in my HF tower omega match shunt feed. They
provide the breakdown voltage needed at legal limit. The verniers on
these caps also make an easy job of the critical tuning that my low
attach point necessitates. And the cost of the caps is a very small
fraction of the total investment in tower, antennas and gear.
My only regret is that I hadn't tried shunt feed years earlier than I
did.
