The IC-746PRO has a known history of getting xmit failures.
The PA dies completely, out of the blue, and requires a fix
and mod. The earlier units (serial # 03351(?)) were especially
prone. Some guys have had no problem, but a number have.
Icom calls it ESD (electrostatic discharge) -- some folks don't
believe that to be the real reason. After mine died the 3rd time,
Icom replaced it.

All the gory details can be found on the IC746 Yahoo group
( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IC746/ )...
but to summarize... if you have an older 746PRO (NOT the
non-PRO), and you haven't had the "ESD mod" done, then
send it to Icom and get the factory mod performed -- all it
should cost you is shipping.

Great rig for the price -- not counting the PA failures.

What are the Xmit problems? I recall someone on the air saying a chip runs hot.
What's the fix? I have one and no problems yet although I think it's a bit
short of 100 W on 2m.
