John, George, Jim, Stew and Dave,
thanks for your answers and suggestiuons.
Some of you suggested to use external dsp-filtering, others suggested
to build a bandpass-, high-cut, or low-cut-filter, all
meant to be installed after the audio-amp.
Ok, this will work.

But wouldnt it be much better to eliminate the hiss by modifiyng the
audio-amp of the TS-850 ( or any other radio) itself, or, if the audio-amp just 
amplifies the hiss that is
produced somewhere else, to prevent the hiss from being fed into the
audio-amp?

Any suggestions?
