None of these units should be placed between a low-level reasonably 
quiet antenna and a gain stage. Every system available uses multiple 
stages and has many components that will raise noise floor.

The built in amplifier is really just for using a small whip antenna 
on the noise input, not for low-noise amplification.

For big antennas, I'd use the 1025 and place it after the preamp, 
assuming you need one. The 1026 amplifier is really designed for 
small noise antennas, like whips. Leave it switched out and use a 
good external low-Z amp.73, Tom W8JI
