Public Service Electric and Gas sent their 500KV crew out again last
week and confirmed that bird droppings on the cables and insulators is
causing the arcing and corona that they observed with their thermal
viewing equipment from the ground.Unfortunatly the 500 KV lines cannot
be taken out of service to "clean" the residue and there is no scheduled
down time.They are hoping for a good and heavy rain to see if that will
help.I was told they could send a crew out to work on the "live" wires
but only as a last resort.Hoping for a good downpour. Pete NO2R
