More on radials: Chapter 3 of the ARRL Antenna Book gives a good blurb on radial length versus number of radials, with a table showing the optimum radial length for various numbers of radials. Using this table for 160-meters, the one-meter rule of thumb is fairly close. For a given amount of wire, "lots of short radial are better than a few long ones", i.e., 16 radials 0.1 wavelengths long each are better than 4 radials 0.4 wavelength each. 73, de Earl, K6SE |
