g'day to the topband reflector group

have just joined this group and starting to absorb the masses of archive
material

the recent postings about k9ay, flag and pennant receiving antennas are
excellent and i am just about ready to get in and build one or another

but can someone tell me if there has been much experimentation with fishbone
and comb type receiving antennas on topband and a comparison with the k9ay,
flag and pennant in performance. the fishbone and comb seem to be easier to
construct, have much higher gain and lend themselves readily to large inline
arrays. maybe not so easy to rotate, hi

i have always thought of the fishbone and comb as super beverages since they
directly respond to the full vertical component of the electric field rather
than only to the 5-10% of it spun off into the surface/travelling/crossfield
wave due to ground losses
