Dear Fellow TopBanders,
My 30 meter tall vertical came down on Friday in a storm - second time this
season. I spent most of Saturday and Sunday re-building the radiator. I
decided to give up bottom loading, and instead, I only put up a 23 m
vertical with a 17 m wire connected at the top. That would be an inverted
"L", right? As of now, the antenna is fed directly with a 50 ohm coax, SWR
is about 1.2:1, not bad.
Now the problem is that although I thought it should be MUCH BETTTER, than
my previously bottom-loaded antenna, I could hardly make any DX QSOs. I
tried to work XZ0A, and they seemed to work everybody else, but me.. What a
disappointment. I wonder if you can suggest an easy way to match the antenna
to the coax? I do not have an AEA or similar equipment to measure the
impedance (HA8IE will bring such a unit later but I have to try it now to
work the KH0...).
