Okay guys......
I'm a believer..... my K9AY loop has been up now for almost 2 weeks. I
knew it was working because when I'd switch from using my vertical on
receive, to the loop, it would sometimes be detectably better. Last
night, I connected the K9AY loop to my trusty old Kenwood R-2000, the
vertical was connected to my Yaesu FT-767 transceiver. I tuned in the same
signal on both receivers..... the speaker of the R-2000 was on the left,
the speaker of the Yaesu FT-767 was on the right. Listening to both
receivers at the same time really enhanced the intelligability of ** ALL
** the signals. Then something really neat happened. When the Loop
played better, the signal would fade from the right speaker and move over
to the left.... it would sometimes stay on the left (loop side) for awhile
& then move back to the right!! I find about 2/3's of the time, the
signal is better on the vertical.... but sometimes when it's better on the
loop it is CONSIDERABLY BETTER then the vertical. When you think that in
about 1/3 of your listening time.... the signal is better on the loop.....
it makes you realize that this is a worthwhile addition to your listening
tools! Listening to any signal on both antennas at once also adds a
"presence" to you don't get when just listening to one receiver. You have
to remember to check where you have the loop relays switched to however....
sometimes when you think the vertical is working better, switching the
relays makes the signal move right over to the loop side. GOOD STUFF!!!!
I was on slow scan TV with some of the guys on approx 1.913 MHz last
night. I have a program called WinPix that I use to transmit & receive
SSTV. I have the input to my computer sound card going to an audio
switchbox. I can instantly switch it to the output of any receiver in the
shack. When listening to the SSTV tones, if they were coming from the
left, I switched the soundcard input to the R-2000 (Loop) .... when the
signals got better on the Yaesu (vertical), I switched the soundcard input
over to there. Sometimes this would happen 3 or 4 times during the
reception of one picture. It made quite a difference is the picture
quality.
THIS IS THE MOST FUN I'VE HAD ON AMATEUR RADIO IN YEARS !!!
