The following is a summary of the subject vertical -- I sent my request
to both reflectors since I was interested getting as much information as
I could.

I received 28 responses from the following 20 Amateurs --

N6TR, KC0NA, W5AJ, KH7M, K0HA, KF4HK, K9UWA, K8AK, N5AR, W8EB, W7WHY,
W4FOA, K1ER, K4JRB, K0LW, K4VUD, K3KO, N0AT, K7DBV, K5QY --- In that
order and I hope I didn't leave anyone out.

1. There was only one negitive response and that Ham considered the HT-18
to be a "Dummy Load" on most of the bands

2. 160 mtrs -15 responses addressed 160 mtrs specifically, performance,
bandwidth
& ease of QSY and 9 addressed inverted L as
the preference vs full vertical

                     - 9 responses discussed problems with the top
insulator breaking down
with 500 watts or more being applied. 2
advised that Hy-Gain was aware of the
problem and made a new insulator available free of
charge in 1996. (new different material)

                     - 5 discussed modifications some of which increased
the height of the
top vertical section to about 68 ft

3. Phasing - 13 covered the HT-18 in 2, 3 or 4 square and where to
obtain more
information on the subject. Hy-Gain has a free
instruction/spec
sheet on phasing the HT-18 and info on
modifications on their
WEB page. For whatever reason I have not
been able to bring up
the WEB page from my internet provider.

4. 2 stated that they thought the antenna was rather pricey but several
said they
wouldn't trade theirs for anything since they were
very pleased

5. Overall (except for the one mentioned above) everyone is pleased with
the HT-18
and that was the kind of information I was
looking for.
