Dear Topbanders
Worked fh/dj2bw on my sunrise this morning (1930z). He was only 449 but
fortunately noise level was low. Opening was very short - he was in for
about 5 mins and quickly faded out.
A few strong European signals on the band but only worked ra3dox who was a
gud 569. DJ7AA was also a gud 569 calling CQ.
Our sunrise peak is currently between 1920-1935z which is 05.20am here.
Will be on the next few mornings looking for cu2ce and any other Europeans.
Agree with Steve's (vk6vz)comments re dipole versus inv L. My experience
has been that a reasonably high dipole will out perform an inverted L over
mediocre ground every time. My dipole is currently at 30m and as expected
is pretty much omni-directional. Did compare this ant with a wire inverted
L - 60ft high at the right angle with 8 elevated radials for 3 months last
season but the dipole won out under all condx. My ground here is admittedly
poor and is sloping.
As a final note - are there any topbanders on the reflector in Idaho, South
Dakota or Arkansas - need these for my WAS.
