Got up a bit later this morning, 0545UTC. G0IVZ, EA6ACC,EI5HE, EA4KD,
LA8LA all calling CQ at various times with no takers. I worked Sean,
EI5HE - I still need EI confirmed. No joy when I called CQ either. By
0616, pretty well full daylight. The US net on 1850 LSB still coming
through - reasonable strength, but they tend to gabble their callsigns,
so none identified. G3GSI, G3FPQ, GU2FRO on 1843 LSB, called by ZL2JR.
G3FPQ gave him 44, GSI gave 22, he was 22 with me. I didn't call in.
Still nothing further down until K8ND appeared on 1828 at 0623 calling
CQ - the only W station heard. Had to call twice: Jeff was a good solid
559 with me, and gave me 449. After we signed, he was called by GW3JXN,
who was 300Hz HF, and only dropped his call in a couple of times, and
Jeff apparently didn't hear him.
There was a comment the other day about condx possibly being better
further up the band. I wonder if this isn't a bit of evidence possibly
supporting that? It doesn't seem likely on the face of it that a
frequency change of about 1% would make that much
difference..................but I dunno. Comments?
We are limited to 26 watts PEP above 1850, so test might not work, but
mayhap we could experiment one morning to see if a sign from the US is
strnger up at say 1980 or thereabouts? Any takers?
