Hello,

I'm a new subscriber to the Top Band Reflector, as I thought it would help
in my commitment to go after 160m DXCC.

I saw NM7M's recent posting on 160m propagation. Toward the end of his
message he very briefly mentioned STRATWARMS.

I recently wrote a short article specifically on STRATWARMS - what they are,
where they come from, and how they impact HF propagation based on some
simple absorption calculations. In a nutshell, STRATWARMS have very little
effect on our normal HF propagation, even on 160m. But if you're trying to
work DX on 160m at noon, that may be a different story!

The article will appear as Technical Correspondence in the February issue of
QST. I hope this helps resolve some of the confusion about STRATWARMS.
