The following is from Jeff K1ZM who does not have Internet
access at his /1 location on Cape Cod. I've done my best to summarize
his comments as he related them over the phone.

Yesterday Jeff was intrigued by reports from VE1ZZ of several
JA's via Long Path. He listened but heard nothing at the time Jack was
reporting the JA opening. Today, he decided to take a listen and was
rewarded with the following stations worked or heard:

2120 JA1JRK 579 First USA/JA QSO via Long Path
2122 JA1HQT 569 SWL only
2145 JH5FXP 579 QSO
2155 JA4DND 579 Marginal QSO (he was not hearing well)
2158 JA4LXY 579 QSO
2207 JR6PGB 559 SWL only

Jeff added that the signals were definitely coming strongest via
his SE Beverage although, at the peak of the opening, he also heard some
signals much weaker on Beverages to the NE and SSW. The opening
extended further inland since W1EYT (MA), W1JZ (MA), K1VW (CT) and
WW2Y (NJ) heard some of the opening although none apparently made QSO's.
Jeff's sunset is now around 2115 which gives him an advantage on this
path since JA sunrise ranges from about 2138 for the JA1's to 2207 for
JA6.

For our JA subscribers, please listen for Jeff and other USA
signals since this path is possible only briefly at this time of year.
Listen about 30 minutes before your sunrise in the Southwest direction
(210 degrees is optimimum) if you have a Beverage in that direction.

Although working JA may be nothing new for most of us, this
opening is BIG news from a propagation standpoint. West Coast
subscribers should also be alert to possible morning Long Path openings
to Europe, since this is the same path but at a different time of day.
Listen at 210 degrees starting about 30 minutes before your sunrise
and you may be rewarded like Jeff.

160 continues to amaze us doesn't it! Congratulations Jeff!

                                        73, Bill W4ZV

P.S. While I have your attention, please correct the note about TX0C
on my Propagation Forecast...QTH is Crozet not Kerguelen.
