For K0HA (BILL) tnx for reply,
For K3SME (SID) tnx for coming back to me
For VE9DX (ANDY) yes, i got your msg re the inverted L
For KB5UL (CHARLES) Pres has already been in touch with me, tnx for your
offer and tnx for the other info as well.

For all TOPBANDERS,

Guess I was pretty vague in my original missive when I asked for
help/assistance in making coils for a vertical antenna sugggested by
Pres Smith (N6SS).
The house here at my QTH in Bahrain is what can be considered a one
level, medditeranean/arabic style dwelling. The house itslef it
appoximately 40 by 60 ft and the top of the roof is about 11 feet off
the ground with a 3 ft parapet surrounding the edge of the roof. I have
a 18ft x 18ft x 8ft cubical quad situated on a mast at one end of the
house and because a quad is a quad I cant use it as a "cap" for a
sloper.
I have another steel pipe mast attached to the middle of the parapet on
one side of the roof. from the mast I have attached a W9INN dipole
(sloper) which is supposed to cover all bands from 160M to 10M. Needless
to say it isnt very effective on 160/80 or 40M, and the QUAD takes care
of all the other bands.
When N6SS visited my QTH he eyeballed the roof and suggested moving
the mast supporting my sloper to the middle of the roof, raising it four
feet off the ground,
insulating it, and installing a elevated radial system above the
parapets, using tuning/matching coils. The rest I detailed in my
original request for help/assistance.
I just do not have the yard space to install a ground level radial
system so I have to do something on the roof.
I've researched the SOMMER 25ft vertical (240 bucks) and sales reps
say that it isnt very effective on 160/80M, the 50ft vertical is still
under evaluation. The GLADIATOR vertical which is 25ft sells for approx
350 USD plus another 99 bucks for the shortened radials and I have no
idea on its performance. Kind of senseless to spend the bucks for
something that might not work.
I could remove the sloper and install a 1/4 wave inverted L, approx
30 ft vert section and the remaining horizontal leg running to a tree.
(by the way, how do you
plot that on ELNEC?) BUT the BOTTOM line is that if I use the design
suggessted by
N6SS or go with a simple inverted L, I am going to have some type of
radial system
for the antenna which will have to be installed on the top of my roof.
Any thoughts, suggestions, hints or ideas are warmly welcomed.
   tnx and 73's
