Sorry Karl I should have been more explicit and said external usb hub
adapter with separate psu as I ran into similar issues as you with one
that was powered direct from a pc usb port......
Bought my CAT cable in 2010 using Icom 735 as theWin Test benchmark and
as mentioned previously drivers are by Prolific..

Malcolm,
Thank you for your this. It never occurred to me that the onboard USB
ports could be an issue. I have a powered USB hub that I can try and
see if that resolves the problem with the Omni. If it does, then I
suspect the issue with the Icom 735 and Xiegu G90 will also be fixed.

*Sorry I can't help you much further Karl but as you say there may be
a chance you've ran into driver or maybe USB hub conflict if you're
using one without an external psu...
Fyi I run Wintest peripherals from a bowered hub ie CAT control,
Keyer, keyboard and mouse with no problems on Win 7....

*Thank you Malcolm.

I downloaded WinTest yesterday and gave it a try. I think the issue
I have is two FTDI dongles being used at the same time. One for a
Winkeyer and the other for a radio.
* *
I have an identical problem using the Winkeyer FTDI dongle and a
FTDI dongle with an Icom 735 or Xiegu G90. Sometimes it works and
after rebooting, it seldom works. I think the operating systems are
mapping instructions to the wrong FTDI device.
* *
It happens with the lastest Linux kernel and with Windows 10 Pro.
* *
DX Commander seems to work okay, but no Winkeyer access with it.
N3FJP Amateur Contact Log will work if I access the Omni VI using
the hamlib library.
* *
Haven't tried any other logging programs with the FTDI access to the
Omni. I have a couple of other radios connected to this PC using
conventional serial ports and everything works fine.
* *
If I remove the standard serial connection from either my Pegasus or
Argonaut V, and make up a cable as shown in the Omni VI manual , I
doubt if there will be an issue.
* *
I did download the latest evaluation copy of HRD to try, but $100
seems a little steep. The Pegasus Plus program will probably work
too, but it is very limited in being able to talk to other apps.
* *
I tried Pegasus Plus with my Pegasus and found it no better than the
original Ten-Tec app.
* *
I have the third Pegasus sold by Ten-Tec and also one of the
original Jupiters. I bought this Omni VI Plus when Ten-Tec first
brought it out.
* *
I am mainly a CW person, but lately have had to use FT8 to make any
contacts.
