The 1251 uses a large diameter core similar to the one for 4:1 or 1:1
balun kits sold by the various balun cos. You could possibly convert a
mechanical rotor from a burned out Variac to be your holder for a new
core wound to the 1251 specs. The taps are continuouls variable wiper
upon the coil. The core is wound with approx. no. 20 solid copper wire;
but is doable with patience.
