The DSP filtering is totally adequate in cw unless there's an s9++ signal
closer than 1.2KHz (half the bandwidth of the stock 2.4KHz roofing
filter). If there is an s9++ signal within the roofing filter passband,
the hardware AGC will kick in and the receiver will desense, which may only
matter to you if the signal you're trying to receive is weak.
Yes, the filters occasionally show up used, but not very often. Inrad also
sells filters.
