I appreciate everything you all have said about the Orion's and the need to
invest some knowledge in order to reap the most from its excellent design. I
agree, and the results can be amazing.
I have had a few Orion’s and Orion 2’s and really liked them. I do change
radios around a lot.
Right now I have an Eagle sitting here and am truly amazed at how quiet it is
and yet how full the sound on SSB is.
No, i am not a big ESSB freak but it really sounds nice when you hear a fellow
who sounds like he is in the room with you.
Right now there is a lot of thundershower activity impacting 40 but the noise
blanker takes out about 80% of it.
They did a nice job on this tiny box… It is indeed a lot like an Omni 6+
without the birdies and with far better SSB audio on the receiver.
Unlike the Orion however, you can operate this thing in your sleep, and get
pretty good results.
I wish Ten Tec had kept the unique way in which the two VFO’s flip in the Omni
6, with the touch-and-hold to listen momentarily on your transmitted frequency
when operating split. That was handy.
