TT service needs improvement.... I do not mind paying the fees but to have my
rig fix and at reasonably time.
Recently I went through the ordeal of sending my Orion for a RS232 Com port /
no Tx issue. Took TT 3 months to supposely fix the Com problem. The other
part was deemed as ....what was that statement? ...."not economically
fixable?" I decided I will not go through the hell of spending more time and
resources and perhaps use the Orion as a door stop. So I paid them their
fees, over $250 which included the shipping back to my QTH.
So I received the rig and placed it on my bench...no com was still working and
next to that the Main RX had been damaged in the process. I knew I had sent
it in for Com and Tx but the Rx was perfectly fine before shipping it...and no,
I am not yet forgetting things or losing my mind. Multiple tries in getting
answers as to why the RX was also bad generated nothing but me was to be
blamed. Curiosity made me open the rig and found a coax (Rcvr Input)
disconnected! But reconnecting it did not fix the RX. The rig's Main RX was
completely deaf! :(
My posting on the yahoo group provided a great resource for the Orion. I
sent in the rig to this fellow ham. The same night he received it he was able
to determined the RX232 and RX issues. A couple of more days and the radio
was back in full swing...these were the parts replaced:
1) Bias IC -1pcs -$12) Bias Transistor -1pcs - $8.53) Driver transistor for
PA - 2pcs - $504) RS port - max232 - 1pcs - $2.50 Total is $62
....talking about "economically fixable..."?
I hope service gets an overhaul at TT.
