Ed, I find that curious.
I haven't played with my 712 for a good year now, but as I recall, the audio
in from the computer triggers the PTT circuit inside the 712, which then
triggers pin 3 on the DIN plug. It shouldn't need the VOX to go into TX.
Maybe I'm getting old and confusing things, but that's the way I remember it
working.

Grant,
Have you looked at other and selected Aux Input instead of Mike?
Have you enabled VOX?
I use a Ten Tec Kit that provides isolated input and output to a sound card
on my computer.
I found I had to adjust the Aux Input Gain substantially in order to trigger
the VOX.
