Jon,

I'll check that out, thanks. I'm looking forward to this rebuild like a trip to the proctologist so doing it right would please me greatly.

Roger,

I'd go with PTFE (teflon) based grease. I haven't re-built a Ten-Tec PTO but I
have re-built boat anchor PTOs. Lithium grease dried up after a few years and
became an anti-lubricant. I was puzzled by this. Then I re-built a pinball
machine and hung out on those forums. Over there, lithium grease is famous for
drying up and is avoided for that reason. I bought some ptfe grease online but
have since seen it here and there. That's all I use now, teflon based grease
and oils. The stuff I use is called Super Lube So far, it's been super. I
bought mine on eBay but I think I saw some at the Home Despot the other day.

Good luck,

Jon

Jim,

I don't think the grease Ten-Tec provides is anything special. I'm looking to
doing the same thing soon and there is quite a discussion on greases on the
TenTecWiki PTO rebuild section: http://www.tentecwiki.org/doku.php?id=pto
I've about decided to go with white lithium grease as our local bike shop
doesn't carry the others mentioned. See what you think.

Hello,

Probably 10 years ago I purchased the PTO rebuild kit for my 544... but since
the PTO continued to function, I never did the rebuild. It has been sitting on
the shelf for a number of years now.

The green lube is still in the plastic bag and still squishy (forgive the technical
term). Should I get new lubricant or go with the "old" stuff? Am I likely to
find good 'grease' locally, or should I just contact Ten Tec?

Tnx & 73
