Mike, hang on a bit. It's not as bad a picture as you are painting.

If you have problems and want to solve them by longer feedline, then you
typically need just 1/8 wavelength on the band in question.
This works out to about 13 feet on 40m and 26 ft. on 80m. These are lengths
which you can easily find a home for.

Years ago there was a picture of how one guy managed this in QST.
He created a big wooden drum with about 6 or 8 vertical pieces of wood.
He just wrapped excess cable around it.
Once around was about 4 ft.
So he needed 3 turns for 40m and 6 turns for 80m.
Piece of cake.

Thanks...

I knew I read about that someplace.

changing the length of feed line, in my opinion, has always been an issue.
You can't make it shorter, it still has to go from point a to point b and
using open wire feeders longer presents a problem, too as you can't readily
coil the stuff on the floor.

the doublet, that has yet to me built, will consist of 14 gauge stranded
wire with snaplock spacers. The tower/apex of the antenna is 200 feet from
the shack. Then add another 20--30 feet to get it down and inside the room.
