Just before leaving for the Dayton Hamvention, I received my June copy of
QST magazine. On page 62 under NEW PRODUCTS, the TEN-TEC RX366 was
advertised. As a new owner of the Orion II, I was very interested in getting
one and I wanted to inform the many Orion owners who do not receive QST.
Soon after I posted this, I received many emails, some friendly and others
not so friendly informing me that the RX366 is not a new product and several
of these people told me that they already had the RX366 installed in their
Orion.
When I saw Jim Wharton NO4A, Vice President TEN-TEC, Inc. at the Dayton
Hamvention I asked him about this and he said that QST probably needed to
fill up space.
When I was assisting at the TEN-TEC Booth, I asked John Henry, TEN-TEC
Engineering about the RX366 and he said that he had already saw many of the
postings pro and con and told me that he needed to personally respond to
clear the air.
After 14 months as Net Control for the TEN-TEC SSB 40 meter and 20 meter
nets, I had just found out about the RX366 on May 15th. after reading the
NEW PRODUCTS article in QST. So on one hand I want to apologize for posting
the QST article and on the other hand, this opened up a plethora of postings
and information about the RX366 that was not being talked about on the
various TEN-TEC Yahoo Groups.
Thank you for taking the time to hear my side of the story.

Subject: [TenTec] HIGH PERFORMANCE SUB-RECEIVER FOR TEN-TEC
ORIONTRANSCEIVERS
For those TEN-TEC Orion owners who do not receive the QST magazine, I am
forwarding this announcement that is in the new June issue of QST on page
62, which reads:
"HIGH PERFORMANCE SUB-RECEIVER FOR TEN-TEC ORION TRANSCEIVERS"
Model RX366 is a high performance sub-receiver for the Orion Model 565 and
Orion II Model 566. This is a new contest grade second receiver for the
Orion series of transceivers. The new second receiver module uses ASR
(Advanced Signal Reception) technology that is already used in the TEN-TEC
Eagle transceiver. The RX366 requires V3 Orion 565 and Orion II 566
firmware. With V3 and the RX366 installed, the Orion sub- receiver
performance is said to be greatly improved over the original sub-receiver
in terms of immunity to interference from adjacent strong signals and
immunity to overload from very strong signals present on the band. Price:
$639 (one 2.4 kHz filter included). For more information, or to order,
visit www.tentec.com.
I will see many of you at the Dayton Hamvention, as I will be working at
the TEN-TEC Booth with the other TEN-TEC Ambassadors and TEN-TEC Staff.
Thank you.
