James, your friend may be a friend but disregard his words.

I use two RF Chokes on my OCF (in addition to its balun) and 3 of them on my
160m Inverted-L because it has a long run of coax and part of the way is in
the air.  If you run high power, CMC can get back in that way too.   I
ALWAYS have one just before entering the house.

        Yes, I routinely use a choke balun on my dipoles and
        vertical ground plane antennas.  My local friends think
        I am Mr. Overkill suggesting I should only use one if I
        see a problem like RF in the shack, but I use one anyway.

        I cannot see how it could hurt.
