did a check of my ameritron this am with the omni 6 running 50 watts and the 
herk 2 at 500 watts out still not into fault and the needle not even hitting 
the red yet on the amp meter of the p/s but i can go off resonance of the 
antenna and all sorts of strange things happen!
 
now an antenna tuner can cause strange things too i always tune at lowest swr 
dip of the meter and after that apply full power things will act normally then.

Right.

LOSS in the line is determined by the match between the antenna and the line.

My observation about a 70A Astron supply being insufficient is based on 
presenting a matched load to my Herc II using a 229 or 238.  The Astron would 
go into protect with keydown at full power.  Yes, I could have backed off the 
power a bit, and the supply would have been happy.
