The word of mouth on the Ten-Tec trip was that it was unrepairable due to unavailability of parts....specifically a chip but no indication as to which chip.

Didn't get any paper work with the radio.

did you see the service receipt from ten tec? Generally the tech will jot down notes about why this rig was un-repairable.

could be a pointer in the direction of troubleshooting

for example, if the main cpu is fubar, then there's nothing much you 're going to do fix the radio unless you can find another chip

and from my experience, the only way to fix bad chips is with a good bean dip!

sorry...

That part of the radio's history was during the previous owners possession. He didn't indicate how the problem started but didn't indicate lightning to be a contributor. The radio is a 9 out of 10 as far as cosmetics inside and out so nothing spilled, no arc markings or abuse evident. There was a repair attempt by someone and the work was decent...no board damage or hackory....:-)

That's about all I know at this point.

just wondering,

what was the reason, if any, that Ten Tec sent the radio back as un-repairable?

lighting hit?

can of pop spilled inside?

Joe ham and his new soldering gun had a try?

just wondering....
