When I replaced my CorsairII PTO with a DDS, I measured a *decrease* in close-in phase noise! What increased was the number of "spurs" on the VFO signal. Most of those spurs tune at many times the fundamental tuning rate, so if I ever encounter a problem a 10Hz tuning shift will nearly always make them "disappear".
