I got a new strip of that illuminating stuff from All Electronics. You have
to drop the front panel down on the bottom screws and remove the top screws.
Unsolder the wires to the slide in back light. Cut the new piece to match
and use clear fingernail polish to seal the cut end, after that dries slide
it in and re-solder the wires to it. The back light thing turns green with
90 some volts from a little internal power supply and looks like new.
